Beer / Happoshu (Low-Malt Beer)
Craft beer filled with delicious water and the appeal of the region.
MINAMI-AIZU MOUNTAIN BREWING (MMtB) began brewing in Aizu Tajima in 2018, established a new, larger-scale factory in 2024, and operates with the aim of becoming a destination brewery that revitalizes and promotes the region.
We use the pure water of Minamiaizu to brew unique craft beers, ranging from the classics to those incorporating local agricultural products such as rice flour (nuka), herbs, plums, blueberries, and hops from Minamiaizu.
The new factory also features a directly managed shop where you can purchase beer while observing the brewing equipment. It is utilized as a community space for local residents and tourists to gather easily, as well as for events, and is sharing beer and local culture nationwide as a new spot in Minamiaizu.
SEKINE MOKUZAI Co., Ltd. MINAMI-AIZU MOUNTAIN BREWING
Craft Beer Born from a Sawmill in Minamiaizu 🍺✨
In Minamiaizu Town, located at the southern tip of the Aizu region and surrounded by mountains, stands a brewery built on the former site of a sawmill. Its name is MINAMI-AIZU MOUNTAIN BREWING (MMtB).
The representative, Takehiro Sekine, is the third-generation owner of SEKINE MOKUZAI Co., Ltd.
The story began when he traveled to the United States and was deeply moved by how local breweries served as "destinations" for their towns.
"I realized that once beer becomes a product, it travels to various places on its own, spreading the name of Minamiaizu. I wanted to make this place a destination for travelers," he shares.
In 2017, he opened the microbrewery and taproom "Beer Fridge." In 2024, a new factory was established right next to Aizu-Tajima Station, and the production of canned beer began in earnest 🏭.
The most defining characteristic of this beer is that we brew the kind of beer we ourselves want to drink and find delicious. They brew many locally-inspired beers using seasonal "shun" (peak freshness) ingredients as adjuncts, such as fruits, crops, and home-grown herbs from Minamiaizu 🌿.
Hops, tomatoes, grapes, and plums harvested from the fields right in front of the brewery bring the blessings of the Minamiaizu land directly into the beer. On top of that, they collaborate with local traditional industries, such as using rice flour provided by the local brewery HANAIZUMI Sake Brewery, to pursue flavors that can only be created here.
The can packaging is also a major highlight 🎨.
The unique labels, created in collaboration with artists and local designers, have a pop aesthetic that makes you want to pick them up. They are easy to take outdoors and are highly appreciated as souvenirs.
🍺 POW POW (Session IPA)
The most popular "sessionable" beer. Featuring a citrus aroma and a light mouthfeel, it is easy to enjoy multiple glasses.
🍺 HEY YA (Golden Ale)
Brewed using rice flour from polished sake rice. It offers citrus and floral notes with a clean, dry finish.
🍺 BOGEN (Standard)
The flagship beer characterized by pleasant citrus and floral aromas combined with a comfortable malt flavor.
The brewery is conveniently located just a short walk from Aizu-Tajima Station on the Aizu Railway 🚉.
Attracted by the warm, wood-infused building visible from the train windows, an increasing number of people are choosing to hop off the train for a spontaneous visit.
We invite you to experience the craft beer that can only be found in this land, alongside the ever-changing seasonal scenery of Minamiaizu 🍺✨.
