Winemaking Inspired by the Rich Nature of the Aizu Basin

Niitsuru Winery was established in the Niitsuru district of Aizumisato Town, Fukushima Prefecture, in 2019. Leveraging the rich nature of the Aizu Basin, everything from grape cultivation to wine brewing is handled entirely within Aizu.

The Niitsuru district is characterized by a fan-shaped landform with excellent sunlight and drainage. Wine grapes grown in this blessed land have a concentrated flavor and an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity.
We operate to deliver wines that allow you to experience the terroir (climate and soil) of Aizu using these grapes.

Aizumisato Town, Fukushima Prefecture. The Niitsuru district, nestled at the foot of the Ou Mountains, is renowned as one of Japan's premier regions for producing high-quality Chardonnay. 🌿

In this land where viticulture has flourished for over 50 years, Aizucoshell LLC Niitsuru Winery was established in 2019.

The reason why Chardonnay from the Niitsuru district receives such exceptional acclaim lies in its extraordinary terroir. Characterized by an alluvial fan topography with excellent sunlight and drainage, the grapes grown here possess a remarkable concentration and a superior balance of sweetness and acidity. 🍇✨

Historically, Niitsuru was a major producer of Otaneninjin (Asian Ginseng), which helped maintain extremely fertile soil. This rich earth, combined with the fan-shaped terrain, created the perfect stage for harvesting the finest Chardonnay and laid the foundation for the quality that continues to this day. 🌟

The winery began when a group of volunteers—who had initially opened a community cafe to support post-disaster recovery—decided they wanted to brew wine using these local "treasures" with their own hands.

However, in February 2025, the region was struck by record-breaking snow damage. Approximately half of their own vineyards were devastated. They faced grueling days of pulling up and resetting every single fallen post. Even as some farmers considered giving up, the team at Niitsuru Winery did not stop.

"We want to pass this proud vineyard on to the next generation."

With this single-minded determination, they protected their grapes to deliver wine that vividly expresses the Aizu terroir. From their signature Chardonnay to varieties like Yama Sauvignon and Almonoir (a hybrid of Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon), they continue to carefully cultivate their estate vineyards as a challenge for the future. This represents the unwavering spirit of Niitsuru Winery.

The "Akabeko" (red cow) on the label carries their wish for you to savor every drop along with the history and atmosphere of Aizu.

We invite you to pour a glass of Niitsuru wine, where the very essence of Aizu's nature is concentrated. 🍷✨
