Okunomatsu Sake Brewery

Daiginjo Shizukusake

Daiginjo Shizukusake "Juhachidai ihei"

Perfecting a delicious and approachable quality sake.

With a legacy of brewing that stretches back to 1716, Okunomatsu Sake Brewery is a master of its craft, celebrating over three centuries of history. Their sake is a testament to their location, born from high-quality sake rice and the pure subsoil water of Mt. Adatara. This dedication to quality hasn't gone unnoticed—their brews have earned high acclaim at prestigious events, including The Annual Japan Sake Awards and the U.S. National Sake Appraisal.

But they aren't just resting on tradition. They embarked on an eight-year quest guided by a single concept: 'sake that pairs beautifully with Western cuisine.' The result of this long journey is 'Eight,' a low-alcohol sake that is light, refreshing, and wonderfully approachable. It's the perfect bottle for those who might not normally drink sake, a true masterpiece of innovation.

In September 2017, the brewery embarked on another innovative endeavor. They set out to create the ultimate sake by fusing their time-honored traditional techniques with the latest technology. From this ambition, 'Yusa Jummaiginjo' was born. Then came a crowning achievement: in 2018, their classic 'Okunomatsu Adatara Ginjo' was awarded the 'Champion Sake' prize at the prestigious IWC (International Wine Challenge). This was a momentous victory, the first time any sake from Fukushima Prefecture had ever won in the Ginjo category. Yet, this champion sake remains humble, crafted with the simple, heartfelt desire to be an 'everyday ginjo'—a high-quality, exceptional sake that everyone can enjoy at an affordable price.

Looking to the future, Okunomatsu Sake Brewery is committed to pushing boundaries. They continue to develop new products that defy the conventional framework of 'Japanese sake,' striving every day to bring even more wonderful, innovative, and delicious sake to the world.
